In a significant step to promote cultural education and heritage appreciation among young people, the Sri Lankan government has announced free admission for children under 18 at 26 major archaeological sites managed by the Central Cultural Fund (CCF).

Among the sites included are world-renowned landmarks such as Sigiriya, the ancient rock fortress, and the Dambulla Cave Temple, both UNESCO World Heritage sites that draw thousands of visitors each year.
The initiative is designed to make Sri Lanka’s rich cultural legacy more accessible to the younger generation, encouraging school visits, family excursions, and hands-on learning experiences. Authorities believe this measure will foster a deeper understanding of the nation’s history and inspire future generations to value and protect Sri Lanka’s heritage treasures.
In addition to free entry for Sri Lankan children, special provisions are also being developed for foreign children, reflecting a broader commitment to inclusive cultural exchange and tourism promotion.

Officials from the Central Cultural Fund have welcomed the decision, noting that it aligns with national efforts to expand educational tourism and strengthen community engagement with historical sites.
